The Exalted One

by Peg Yarbrough

God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. He is over all. He alone is worthy of our most devout worship, honor and praise. All things come from Him, including His Son.

Jesus is our Messiah, the Anointed one, the consecrated one, our deliverer. He is the Savior, the Prophet and the future King who will sit on the throne of David. We are to have fellowship with both the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

I John 1:3 –
…and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

Right now Christ is seated at the right hand of the Lord God Almighty, YAHWEH, who has delegated all power and authority to His son, “until he makes his enemies his footstool. (I Corinthians 15: 24-28) In other words, Jesus is the administrator of the new covenant. He is the one who is legally vested with the administrative power to carry out everything necessary for the enforcement of that covenant.

Hebrews 9:13 – 15a
For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament

Matthew 28:18
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Ephesians 1:20 – 22
[God’s mighty power] Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

When Jesus went into heaven as a spirit power, a new power was unleashed in heaven and on earth! The power of the risen Christ is now available to sons of God who have faith to serve the risen Christ. Those who do his work have that authority.

Mark 13:34
For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work…

I Peter 3:22
(Christ) Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

Right now, those who obey Christ have the authority to do the works that Christ did when he was on earth because it is Christ in you, the hope of glory!

Colossians 1:27 – 29 NLT
For this is the secret, Christ lives in you, and this is your assurance that you will share in his glory.
So everywhere we go, we tell everyone about Christ. We warn them and teach them with all the wisdom God has given us, for we want to present them to God, perfect (mature) in their relationship to Christ.
I work very hard at this as I depend on Christ’s mighty power that works within me.

Paul depended on the power of Christ in him to do the Lord’s work. All of us must have an honest realization of Christ in you to walk in any kind of power or authority in this world today. A true and vital relationship with Jesus Christ is the only way we can be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might.

In Acts chapter 19, verses 13 through 17, the sons of Sceva tried doing a little exorcism, and they called over evil spirits the, “name of the Lord Jesus… whom Paul preacheth.” These men were using Jesus’ name without a true and vital relationship with him. The evil spirit answered and said, “Jesus I know (have personal experience with) and Paul I know (have knowledge from a distance) but who are you?” The spirit said that it had personal knowledge of Jesus, but the exorcists did not! And so the man in whom the spirit was lept on them, and beat those guys up, and they fled from the house naked and wounded.

Demons, evil spirits, tremble at the name of Jesus used on lips of believing. Why? Because they know that they are absolutely powerless against it, and must obey. They are subject unto his authority. (Eph. 1:21) That is God’s order, His Son is the exalted one.

Some well meaning Christians act as if to have this kind of a relationship with Christ is to demean their worship and praise of God the Father. Christ himself said just the opposite. He said that to have the proper relationship with him was to glorify his Father.

Perhaps there is the fear of who to pray to. No one in the Bible ever prayed to Jesus! They spoke to him. We pray to God, but we should be able to talk to our living Savior who is the head of his Church. We need to acknowledge that he is still actively involved in our lives today.

What is Jesus doing NOW?
He is our Messiah, our Lord, the Savior, the Head of the Church, Our Passover Lamb, the Shepherd and Bishop or our souls, the High Priest, Wonderful Counselor, the Mediator to the New Covenant, Our Intercessor, the Way, the Truth, the Life, Prince of Peace, he is a Life Giving Spirit – ALL titles of authority & power.

We run the race of life praising our Father in heaven, but looking at His Son, the faithful one who ran the race before us.

Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The power and position given to Christ by His Father is the order for the Church today. God has set the pattern, we know Him through His Son, the revealer. We are to look to His Son for power and authority to do the job that God wants done here on earth. We are to look to His Son to strengthen our faith. We are to abide in His Son as the branch abides in the vine, to bring forth much fruit.

John 15:7,8
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
